Why is a journey more important than the destination…???
Let us understand the real meaning of journey and destination along with some examples. And why is the journey more important than the destination?
Life is a journey of experiences. It is these experiences accumulated on the path of our journey that makes us mature and more understanding.
The journey can be of many types: –
- Journey of Soul– This journey comprises many births and the soul accumulates the experiences of all births. Every birth adds to more experiences, and it is those experiences that make the soul more mature.
- Journey of One Life– This Journey comprises all the experiences of all the events and situations in one lifetime.
- A Short Journey within one lifetime– This could be any journey related to some goal, some activity, or some process that you pursued during your life. The duration of that journey could be 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, and so on. For example, drinking water could be a 2-minute journey. Eating food could be a 15-minute journey. Learning to drive a car could be a 10-day journey. Writing a book could be a 2-year journey. Pursuing a career could be a 30-year journey. Being in a marriage could be a 1 day to 50+ year journey.
So, there can be many journeys based on the duration, but one thing is common for all journeys. That common thing is there is some purpose, goal, or destination for every journey.
For example,
- Eating food- Journey from being hungry to being Filled. Hunger was your starting point, eating was the journey, and being full was your destination/goal.
- Drinking water- Journey from being thirsty to being hydrated. Being thirsty was your starting point, drinking water was the journey, and being hydrated was your destination/goal.
- Learn to drive a car– Journey from being a non-driver to being a driver. The need to drive a car was the starting point, learning to drive was the journey, and being a trained driver was the destination.
- Pursuing a career- Journey to help society with your skillful work and in exchange get some money to meet your livelihood. Pursuing your career was your journey and becoming more skillful at the end was your destination.
- Writing a book- Journey from idea to a book. Being passionate about sharing your knowledge was the starting point, actual writing your ideas in a structured way was your journey, and a final edited book was your destination.
- Marriage- Journey from being single to two to family. Being desirous of fulfilling your physical, emotional, and spiritual needs was the starting point. Being in marriage was a journey, and the destination was to understand the psychology of opposite energy, yourself, your mind, life, and ultimate freedom from being emotionally dependent to spiritually independent souls. This might seem interesting to you. Soon, I will write another article on this.
Again, seven things are common on all journeys.
- That all journey has hurdles and challenges.
- The hurdles and challenges are nothing but your inability to cross those hurdles.
- The purpose of hurdles and challenges is to make you understand, learn, and practice to cross those hurdles and overcome challenges.
- The hurdles and challenges on your path to your destination help you learn so many skills and ways to cross those hurdles.
- These hurdles and challenges make you accumulate pearls of wisdom.
- Repeating the journey gives you more in-depth experiences and makes you master.
- If you don’t understand, learn, and master the problems associated with the hurdles and challenges, they will keep haunting you again and again. You will remain stuck in the journey unless and until you master them.
Now coming back to why a journey is more important than the destination.
Journey: See there are a lot of challenges and at the same time a lot of opportunities to learn and accumulate new skills during the journey. Your journey helps you grow in every area of your life.
There are so many uncertainties associated with the challenges which make your journey exciting, interesting, and enjoyable. And surpassing every hurdle gives you immense inner joy, happiness, and a feeling of accomplishment.
After crossing every hurdle, you get a new challenge. This means no monotony; no repetition of hurdle will always keep you excited and there is no chance of boredom to set in.
Destination: Although the destination is exciting, it is for this destination and achievement you worked so hard, but it is blank. But the excitement of achievement is short-lived.
It has no challenges or hurdles. Without hurdles, life is boring, dull, and empty. I have nothing to do, learn and grow.
Then why make your life dull and boring, give your life a new challenge, a new goal…
Give yourself a next goal, and next Target, and be ready for the new unknown zone of challenges and development of new skills. This will keep your life exciting, and you will feel fulfilled and happy.
Don’t stop, keep on repeating the cycle and make the best out of the journey called life.
Are you ready…
Best of luck
